With which job role/ position did you start your career?
I followed my passion and started designing and selling my own bags. Prior to that, working I was working in retail space for some time and that helped me in understand the dynamics of retail and gain a perspective from both the customer and business angle.
When did you join your present organization?
I have been associated with Baggit since its inception and currently hold the position of Managing Director and Chief Design Curator
What kind of leadership style do you follow in your organization?
My leadership style is similar to that of a tigress in action – steps back, analyze the situation and then pounce to take the most appropriate action.
How are you contributing to the growth of your employees?
We are putting our resources and energies to create a culture of planning and understanding – both for oneself as well as the business, which will help in the overall growth of the employees
Name one person who had a tremendous impact on your career?
Philip Green (Top shop CEO) – for the magic that he creates in the retail space, for attracting people from various age groups and countries, culminating into a magical aura that compels you to buy.
Share that one critical decision that you made as the leader of your organization?
One of the most critical decisions I made was to launch the first Baggit EBO (Exclusive Business Outlet). I had to take a call regarding the volume, reach, value and business growth and that turned out to be a wise decision for the overall growth of the business.
When faced with two equally-qualified candidates, how do you determine whom to hire?
Based on their experience, attitude, aptitude, and love for the work. The candidate’s readiness in accepting the existing scenario and taking things to the next level would also matter.
What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess?
Every leader should be passionate about his/her work and keep innovating constantly.
What is one lasting impact that you hope to leave on your present company?
With leadership comes responsibility. One needs to stick his/her value system and not give up on them with the pressure of time. Also, I would like to handhold all the entrepreneurs associated with me, so that their efforts can contribute towards making the country better.
What are you doing to grow and develop as a leader continuously?
In order to grow as a good leader, one should give their ideas to their team and encourage them to do their best.
What advice would you give to the new- age leaders?
In order not to get too complacent and stay in tune with the current trends, try and surround yourself always be with younger people so that one is on a learning curve and ready to experiment. Don’t play safe, start taking risks because it will help you explore new dimensions. Such risks will always help one to make one stronger both spiritually and physically.
